"Hooray sports! Do the thing! Win the points!"

My name is Kayla, for those of you who don't know me, and I'm a Chicago sports fan living in Wisconsin, which is as painstaking as you think it might be. I'm writing this fresh off of a Cubbies loss in the NLCS, but I have no words so we'll just go ahead and skip that take (other than we had no bullpen so...). I decided that there aren't enough women involved in sports blogging, so I wanted to go ahead and start my own. 

I interpret the quote "Hooray sports! Do the thing! Win the points!" as satire. If, like my mom, you're unfamiliar with this or the term "sportsball" (I'm talking to you, Super Bowl party goers that don't actually like or enjoy football), they are often used by people who are not necessarily educated on the sport they are watching. Or, if you're like some of my friends, you use it to be an asshole. I identify as that asshole in this case. I think all too often it's assumed that women are uneducated about sports. Or if they are educated, they are constantly questioned about their knowledge. For example, when I was growing up, I remember being in my elementary school's art room at the boys' table, where we were hard at work on our clay Thanksgiving food projects (weird, I know. Mine blew up in the kiln, which explains my art skills to this day). We were talking football, like usual, and when I brought up my nine-year-old opinion, I was immediately questioned. "What teams are in the NFC North?" "How many teams are in the NFL?" "Who do you know on your team besides Brian Urlacher?" It was absolutely ridiculous! When I answered with ease and shut the boys up, they finally considered my opinion as validated. 

All too often, this still happens. Or, like in my case,  you're just ignored as you talk. My goal with this blog is to bring a female's voice and opinion to sports. If you're one of those women who is in my boat, welcome to the open seas! We'll sail the journey together, and I'll be there for you through thick and thin. If you're one of those women who doesn't understand sports, let me know and I'll happily explain anything you want, until your brain is full with knowledge. Thank you all for reading!     Kudos Kayla. I have little to no interest in sports at all, so I'd be like the party goers you reference ( if I can stand to go in the first place) That said, I sure admire the woman who knows her stuff in this arena. Keep at it.

    Man or woman, my expectation is knowledgable, well articulated opinion and hopefully a different perspective on things based on your Chicago fandom.

After weeks and weeks of wondering when in the hell the College Football Playoff Committee would respect Wisconsin, we FINALLY get what we're waiting for as a fanbase. An undefeated Wisconsin is FINALLY in the Top 4 of the Top 25 CFP Rankings. Week in and week out, the Badgers have proved themselves as a top tier competitor. Grateful Red

After watching the first three Wisconsin Badgers basketball games of the seasons, I thought it to be necessary to divulge number one, my love for them, and number two, the fact that they are the underdogs of NCAA men's basketball. Last night, the boys took an L against a very good Xavier team. But, if you watched, you learned a lot. Here's what I took in.  Brad Davison can take literally any shot he wants and he'll probably make it. You may not know that he's a freshman from Minnesota and was a quarterback of his high school football team. The kid is insane. He's something special and I can't wait to see what he does for Wisconsin basketball.  If you double Ethan Happ, he'll find a way to make an assist.
